Is Anki a must for Step 1?

As for whether anki is necessary, it is not BUT it all depends on how you learn. most people end up relying heavily on it. but i know people who got 250+ without anki. The most important part about anki is making sure you keep up with all of your reviews otherwise the system is worthless.

How many Zanki cards should I do a day?

Zanki can be rough long term, getting 200+ reviews in a single day. If you’re fast, you could get those done in 1-2 hours (I’m too ADHD to do that). To lower the number of reviews, I suggest a set of news from each subdeck on a different day (eg 60 from biochem on day 0 then 60 from cardio on day 1, etc.).

I personally found Step 2 to be more challenging, despite the fact that scores on Step 2 are usually higher on average than for Step 1. This is because Step 2 often tests what the “next best step” is in terms of workup or treatment; unlike basic science facts, this information DOES vary from year to year.

It’s really difficult relative to school exams as it requires a good level of thinking, but easy compared to competitive exams like JEE advanced or gaoakao.
