The University of Reading
Submitted by Rui Loureiro on Fri, 06/06/2008 - 13:42
The University of Reading is one of the top 20 most research-intensive universities in the UK, a major contributor to the knowledge economy, and internationally recognised for the excellence of its teaching. The School of System Engineering has a strong research interest in interactive systems research; that is any situation where a human is considered as integral to the control loop. Relevant research in assistive and rehabilitation technologies includes the EU funded projects SCENARIO (navigation of an semi-autonomous wheelchair in an indoor environment), ARIADNE (technologies to assist people with special needs to navigate through a public building), MOBINET (a survey of robotic needs for people with disabilities), GENTLE/S (use of robots and haptic interfaces to assist in neuro-rehabilitation following a stroke), and DRIFTS (using advanced technologies to identify and suppress upper limb tremors).
