Presenting the network ideas to the SPARC audience
Submitted by Farshid Amirabd... on Thu, 06/12/2008 - 11:25I have been invited to present our network ideas in Bath on the 30th of June during a SPARC workshop . Thanks to Prof Peter Lansley (Director of SPARC initiative), Prof Roger Orpwood (Director at BIME), Lisa Austin (Research Manager at the University of Bath) and Ms Verity Smith (SPARC Coordinator) for organising this event and for their non-stop work in promoting aging research. This would be a great opportunity to get external advice and to also link with the SPARC and KT-EQUAL initiatives.

Robots and Brain Stimulation Help Successful Rehabilitation of Movement Following Stroke.
Submitted by Duncan Turner on Fri, 06/06/2008 - 12:41Over a quarter of a million people in the UK are living with long-term disability, as a result of a stroke damaging part of the brain. The physical, emotional and economic costs to the individual, their carers and wider society are enormous world-wide – billions of Dollars, Euros and Pounds. We are focused on understanding how the brain recovers following stroke and how to speed up the process by using robotics and brain stimulation technologies.
Network grant submission
Submitted by Farshid Amirabd... on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 18:28We will continue to extend this group in pursuing research grants in the areas of assistive, rehabilitation and assessment robotics. This site will now act as a disseminating medium exchanging news from different national and international colleagues in order to encourage development in the fore mentioned areas.
Welcome to the Network for Assistive and Rehabilitation Robotics
Submitted by Farshid Amirabd... on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 15:21The term “Assistive and Rehabilitation Robotics” refers to a class of mechanical devices designed to interact with people with functional impairment and disabilities. These devices seek to improve or facilitate one’s function, and to speed up the recovery process.
Our main objective is to network current groups involved in this field in the United Kingdom. There are currently many centres involved in research in this area but their research is very often isolated leading to small scale clinical trials and little dissemination power. It is hoped that by joining multiple centres, we will not only share knowledge and expertise, but also provide a chance for stronger body of evidence of usefulness for these technologies. The ultimate goal is to convince users, governmental bodies and industries that these technologies do work.
